Sunday 11 July 2021, England competed at the Euro Finals for the very first time. Despite the pandemic, the streets of West London were filled with people celebrating and making their way to Trafalgar Square. I climbed up a traffic light in the middle of the crowd and sat there. I’m not into football but I wanted to see for myself what it was all about. I wanted to understand what it was about football that made people ignore covid restrictions, what screaming "En-Ger-Lland" meant, and how it made people blind to colour when it suited them. I wanted to see what it was about the sport that made people come together or break things and if it was football or something else. Finally, I wanted to understand what England was trying to bring home and see if home was a place worth coming back to at all.
